On or around the 176th day of school, there were sounds of laughter and conversation echoing down the hallways of the administration building in June 2022. My assumption was an end of year celebration was underway bidding colleagues farewell in the final countdown to summer. I was mistaken.
A quick peek in the meeting room revealed teachers shoulder to shoulder with pens, papers, electronic devices and lots of conversation. Phrases were uttered like “tried this last year” or “I am looking for a new way”, “this could be better” and “I am excited to try it and see how it goes!”. Yes, as the final bell was about to ring for the school year, there were eager teachers collaborating, innovating and putting forth new ideas to help each other improve their students’ learning journey in the fall.
So here we are, the real final countdown. Backpacks are ready. Name tags in place. Time to lift off and see where those lessons take us this year.
I am beyond grateful to the 1000 teachers and staff in Forest Hills that have tirelessly prepared for the start of the 2022-23 school year.
